Message I beg to differ...Porsche engineering is wayyy ahead of the Lotus....

I mean :
Porsche Carerra GT

"A lightweight monocoque chassis and engine/transmission mounts of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, which is a Porsche design. To facilitate a top speed of 205mph, the Carrera GT features the under floor technology of a racing car with a fully clad carbon under floor with rear diffuser and air flow ducts. The Carrera GT has an overall length of 4613mm, width 1921mm, height 1166mm and a wheelbase of 2730mm. Power comes from a 5.7 litre engine that produces 612 PS @ 8000rpm."

Esprit 2003 TT

The Engine

Configuration: Aluminum-alloy twin-turbocharged V8, 90 degree cylinder bank angle, single-plane crankshaft.

Bore: 83 mm Stroke: 81mm Capacity: 3506 cc
Power: 350 HP @ 6500 rpm Torque: 295 lb ft @ 4250 rpm
Head Chamber Aluminum alloy, four-valve pent-roof combustion
Valvegear: Dual overhead camshafts with one toothed belt per bank, hydraulic tappets.
Inlet valves: 33.5 mm Exhaust valves: 30.0 mm
Block: LM25TF aluminum alloy with cast iron "wet" lines, spheroidal graphite cast iron cross-bolted main bearing caps.

Turbochargers: Two Garrett T25 water-cooled, oil lubricated.
Fueling: One primary injector per cylinder, one secondary injector per bank.
Ignition: Four double-ended coils triggered from crankshaft sensor.
Ancillaries: Water pump, alternator, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor.

Weight: 485 lb with ancillaries.

The Car

Chassis/Body: Rigid steel zinc-coated backbone chassis, composite bodywork with seating for two.
Front Suspension: Independent by upper and lower wishbones, with uprated coil springs, revised suspension geometry and damper settings.
Rear Suspension: Indpendent by upper and lower transverse links with radius arms, coil springs and telescopic dampers.
Aluminum hub carriers.
Wheels: OZ Racing Wheels; Front: 17"x8.5", Rear: 18"x10" on Dunlop SP9000 Tires; Front: 235/40ZR 17, Rear: 285/35ZR 18

Performance:
Maximum Speed: 180mph 0-60mph: 4.4 seconds 0-100mph: 10.5 Seconds

So how can you guys not say that Porsche is a true exotic?? Problem with trying to put them in only one group is that they also put out the Boxster...but Lotus has the Elan and Elise as well, certainly in Boxster class.

I think in reading the above, engineering at Porsche as shown in the Carerra GT is ahead of Lotus as shown in the Esprit (not saying it sucks at all but is dated in technology compared to the Porsche)

btw I wasn't knocking the wedge, just saying it takes more than that to be an exotic. I'd probably consider the Lotus Esprit an exotic (esp given the lore) but not put it ahead of Porsche as far as engineering for sure...

And don't forget, as in all British cars, make sure it comes with the N option...that would be 'N' for "Nigel", the 24x7 mechanic in the trunk... ;-)
